This research project aims to identify discursive representations of immigrants in media, with particular attention to skilled immigrants and Canadian experience using discourse analysis. Further, the project will examine how representations of Canadian experience indicate the underlying understandings of the Canadian work place, especially focusing on the tacit knowledge. Working closely with community partners, the proposed study will make a significant contribution to the field of Canadian immigration by making explicit the hidden/underlying context of social policy, service delivery and public responses to immigrants. This, in turn, will help re-examine and improve the current social policy and service delivery systems for immigrants.
