Eating Attitudes and Behaviours and Body Image Satisfaction Among Gay and Bisexual Men in Ontario (2008-2009)
Principal Investigator: David Brennan, Factor-Inwentash Faculty of Social Work, University of Toronto
Funded by: Society for the Psychological Study of Social Issues Spring 2008 Grants-in-Aid Award Project
This project builds upon previous research regarding health disparities faced by gay and bisexual men and other men who have sex with men (GBM/MSM). The study will assess body image satisfaction, disordered eating behaviours and attitudes and associated health risks among GBM/MSM in Ontario. Using a survey design, data will be collected at the 2008 Toronto Pride Festival and analyzed for levels of disordered eating and body image satisfaction as well as possible factors that might be associated with these risks, including demographics, depression, alcohol/drug usage, internalized homonegativity, history of childhood abuse, and sexual risk.
