Welfare of Children Initiative
By ratifying the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child in 1991, affirmed its dedication to health and well-being of children in our society. The document “A Canada Fit for Children” identifies that the well-being of children is a shared responsibility in Canadian society where parents play the primary role in the nurture and care of their children within the broader context of our communities and social institutions. The Welfare of Children Initiative seeks to determine the best methods for supporting families in raising healthy, happy children. In keeping with the definitions in A Canada Fit for Children, the Welfare of Children Initiative defines the welfare of children broadly and views it as the well-being of children and as encompassing a wide range of needs and services.
