Steven Solomon
is a doctoral candidate at the Factor-Inwentash Faculty of Social Work at the University of Toronto. His dissertation is an investigation of homophobic and sexist language among middle school students in the Toronto District School Board (TDSB). For nearly 15 years, Steven has worked as a school social worker with the Human Sexuality Program of the TDSB. In addition to providing counseling support to LGBT students, teachers, parents and their families, Steven runs anti-homophobia workshops across the district, kindergarten to grade 12. He also provides social work support to the Triangle Program, Canada’s only high school classroom for LGBT students. As well, Steven has taught part-time at the Ryerson School of Social Work for the past ten years in the area of anti-oppression, social work theory, queer theory and practice with LGBT populations. Here at FIFSW, Steven has previously taught the Elements/Lab course as well as participating in the Bell funded research on cyber-bullying.
