Dorothy Hasinoff , M.S.W., M.Ed., Ph.D. (candidate)
Dorothy Hasinoff is a teaching assistant for Principles of Aging and course instructor for Social Policy and Social Welfare in the Canadian Context for the Master of Social Work program at the University of Toronto's Factor-Inwentash Faculty of Social Work. As an instructor, she uses innovative teaching approaches to help students understand the course material. She finds it particularly rewarding to inspire students to enjoy learning about social policy.
Dorothy Hasinoff has also taught at Ryerson University's G. Raymond Chang School of Continuing Education (Community Services). In 2008-09, she taught Introduction to Aging and in 2007-08, at RU's School of Social Work, she taught Social Work Research.
Dorothy Hasinoff's enrolment in a full-time doctoral program at the Faculty of Social Work, University of Toronto, includes participating in the Collaborative Program in Aging and the Life Course. Her primary academic interests are older Canadian women and their health as it relates to their poverty.
During the course of her public sector career, Dorothy Hasinoff was in senior management. Most recently, she worked as a project lead at the Government of Ontario's Seniors' Secretariat. Her responsibilities included:
- results-based planning, annual operational planning, performance measurement
- policy papers: Retirement Homes, Ontario Seniors' Strategy
- policy projects: F/P/T Ministers: Planning for Canada's Aging Population
- think tank lead: Future Planning for those Affected by Alzheimer Disease
- steering committee member: Free from Harm: Toward a Best Practice Guide on the Abuse of Older Women
Prior to joining the Ontario Seniors' Secretariat, Dorothy Hasinoff managed a business re-engineering project at Cabinet Office. Previous positions include:
- Manager, Violence Prevention, Ontario Women's Directorate
- Manager, Tourism Research and Industry Competitiveness, Ministry of Tourism
- Manager, Road Safety Marketing Office, Ministry of Transportation
- Manager, Business Services Office, MTO
She also held positions at Management Board Secretariat; first as Supervisor, French Training and Evaluation Services and then as Executive Assistant to the Assistant Deputy Minister, Human Resources and Leadership Planning.
Dorothy Hasinoff joined the OPS in 1980, initially as Vocational Counsellor, Ministry of Community and Social Services. She then worked as Employment Equity Program Officer, Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care.
Prior to joining the OPS, Dorothy Hasinoff worked as a paediatric/geriatric social worker and as a counsellor of single mothers in a family service agency.
Dorothy Hasinoff holds an undergraduate degree in philosophy from the University of Alberta, and two master's degrees; the first, in social work from Dalhousie University and the second, from the University of Toronto in applied psychology and adult education.
