Billie Allan is a PhD candidate at the Factor-Inwentash Faculty of Social Work, where her doctoral research focuses on the health and well-being of urban Aboriginal women. She holds a BA from Carleton University and a MSW from the University of Toronto.
Billie's social work experience includes clinical, policy and research work at the community, provincial and national level, primarily in the areas of health and mental health. Her research interests include Aboriginal peoples' health, Aboriginal approaches to research and pedagogy, and how social work education and knowledge can better respect and reflect the knowledge(s) of communities served by social workers. She has taught in the social work programs of Ryerson University, York University and the University of Toronto. Billie is a member of Shabot Obaadjiwan First Nation.
