Abel Ickowicz, MD, FRCPC.
Dr. Ickowicz was born in Costa Rica. He graduated with high distinction from the University of Costa Rica's medical school in 1978 and completed his Psychiatry and Child Psychiatry training in Toronto in 1986. He and has been on staff at The Hospital for Sick Ickowicz is Psychiatrist-in-Chief at Sickkids and Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry, University of Toronto.
Dr. Ickowicz’ research interests include behavioural genetics, characterization of the Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder phenotype, evaluation of long term effects of medication use in children, and the study of risk factors in early and very early onset psychotic disorders, He is the co-author of the ADHD chapter in the Oxford Textbook of Psychiatry. Dr. Ickowicz was the recipient of the 2004 Sick Kids Postgraduate Psychiatry Teaching Award, is a member of the Editorial Board of the Canadian Journal of Psychiatry and the Journal of the Canadian Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. He is currently serving as elected Ontario Representative to the Board of Directors of the Canadian Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.
