This 2-day workshop will
introduce participants to the most up-to-date knowledge and evidence-based
practices for providing holistic mental health care to clients who are from
racialized communities and living with mental illness. Participants will learn
how emerging perspectives on health equity and health disparities can be
translated into frameworks that integrate anti-racist and anti-oppressive
principles with sound, effective clinical practice. The workshop will be
participatory, using creative activities and tools to enhance effective
learning. The workshop aims to achieve the
following outcomes: - Increased knowledge and skill in cultural competency , anti-racism/anti-oppression and integration of intersectional perspectives in practice - Increased knowledge of a holistic model of service delivery for people from racialized groups - Increased skills for using healing and recovery approaches relevant to mental health in racialized communities and experiences of racial minority clients with mental illnesses - Increased awareness of services, organizational interventions, community resources, supports and systemic changes needed to address access to appropriate services for racialized communities Who will benefit from this

Martha Ocampo, RN Martha is the former
Co-director of Programs and Services at Across Boundaries (AB), and now acts as
Manager for Education and Resources. She has played a key role in developing the
Centre’s Holistic Model of Care within an Anti-Racism/Anti-Oppression Framework,
integrating Indigenous practices, art,
politics, spirituality and community involvement in developing services and
programs that enhance healing and recovery. Martha has a long history of
providing educational and training workshops at mental health agencies,
colleges, universities and the general public, including the development of a
Leadership and Advocacy Training for marginalized women. |
