Continuing Education
In his 87th year, Michelangelo wrote the Latin words, "Ancora Imparo" in the margin of one of his sketches. Loosely translated this means, "I am still learning". It is part of his genius that Michelangelo recognized the importance of lifelong learning. In our Continuing Education Department, we too are still learning, and we invite social workers, and other people in human services to join us on this journey by taking some of the many courses and workshops that we are offering in the 2011-2012 season.
This year we are featuring workshops that explore how new knowledge of the brain impacts both our understanding of behaviour, thinking and emotion, and how we can practice from a brain-informed perspective. We are running a series on Conducting Custody Evaluations, training Mental Health professionals to provide high-quality, evidenced-based custody evaluations. And we are teaching Emergency Response skills, Anti-Oppressive Mental Health practices, and Same Sex Parenting frameworks that respond to the social climate of the day.
We have further expanded our ground-breaking Mindfulness Meditation Certificate program, and seen our ever-popular Solution Focused Counselling certificate spawn a whole new Solution Focused Coaching program, which teaches techniques for the workplace.
I hope you will take some time to review our menu of exciting courses, workshops, and certificate programs this year. Fortunately we don't all have to be geniuses to recognize the importance of staying current and informed in our professional practice. Besides, you just might have some fun and meet some very interesting people.
